
Prof. Xiaoqin Elaine Li

Jack S. Josey-Welch Foundation Chair in Science
Prof. Li is a Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS), OPTICA, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). She served as Chair of the Division of Laser Science at APS in 2024 and has held the Jack S. Josey Welch Foundation Science Chair since 2023.
Prof. Li earned her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 2003 and subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at JILA, Colorado. Since joining the University of Texas at Austin in 2007, she has led seminal research in areas such as low-dimensional semiconductors, atomically thin van der Waals materials, magnetic materials, and nanophotonics.
Her contributions to science have been recognized with numerous honors, including the U.S. Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers and a Sloan Fellowship. From 2013 to 2015, she was a Humboldt Research Fellow at the Technical University of Berlin.
